Ouch I did it again, damnit!

Remember when I twisted my ankle really badly a while ago, shit I did it again. Damn! It was real stupid as well as the gym was about to close and I thought ooh I have one minute to do my 1.5 twist one more time before they kick us out of the gym and I rushed into it without actually checking if the mats were laid out properly. Sure enough, I landed with my left foot on the edge of the mat, rolled my ankle - classic twisted ankle. Here's a picture of my left ankles swollen like a balloon. It hurt like hell. Damn I was in so much pain when it happened but now my painkillers have kicked in.
It was so badly sprained that I couldn't put any weight down on my ankle after it happened and I am still hopping rather than trying to walk. From experience, I find that twisted ankles usually improve a lot after the initial 24 hours - I have twisted my ankle fiercely like that four times and at least I know it's not broken, but damn I felt so stupid as I could have taken a few moments, checked that the mats were in place before rushing into that skill. That probably means no gymnastics for me for a while - I had 3 more training sessions before I go to France but ah well, my France-Germany trip will give me the time to heal properly before I do any more gymnastics again. Luckily I use my brains to earn a living - I know that I can do my job in France and Germany even if I have to go in a wheelchair as I am using my brains. Mind you, I still totally love gymnastics but I really have to be a lot more careful with the equipment!

  1. Hi LIFT, Sorry to hear this, hope your ankle heals fast. It certainly looks better than the last time when it was all black & blue!
I just have a quick question. would it be an oversimplification to say that ankle problems are due to sports injury whereas knee problems are due to being overweight?
The reason I ask is because recently Kim Jong Un BROKE his ankles (BOTH of 'em!) due to being fat, which came as a surprise to me, as most overweight people I know have knee, not ankle problems.
Furthermore, as a regular jogger & at my age where one get prone to weight gain, Im facing both risks. Thanks!

    1. Hi and thanks - it didn't go black/blue this time but it's only been like 14 hours so far. It usually takes 24 hours - 48 hours for the swelling to go down. I slept so poorly last night as I was in so much pain.

A classic sprained ankle = inversion/lateral sprain, when you roll your ankle outwards and stretch the ligaments are stretched beyond their normal mobility. That can happen walking down the stairs - you don't need to be doing extreme sports to hurt your ankle like that, you just have to be 'sway' (unlucky). As for Kim in North Korea, I don't wanna start speculating... He's a strange figure.

If you are concerned, why not switch to swimming then?
