Hola from Bayahibe, Dominican Republic

Hi guys, hola! I am dropping you all a line from Bayahibe, Dominican Republic. It has been a crazy trip - hot, manic, language barriers, such adventures. I have met many interesting people. So much to tell you, but I have a lot to do - I am not prepared to spend an hour blogging when I should be having breakfast and then going out to explore this town. But here's to let you know in bullet points what some of the most memorable experiences have been so far.
  • Collapsing from heat stroke in San Juan, Puerto Rico and getting helped by the very kind Americans who took such good care of me. Kind people, horrible weather.
  • The way my Puerto Rican taxi driver gave me the stare of death when I forgot to tip him and the moment I slipped in $2 he suddenly became super friendly again.
  • Practically getting kidnapped in Veron, Dominican Republic when I asked the wrong people for directions and having to argue my way out of that situation - all in Spanish of course.
  • Getting harassed by the locals trying to sell me crap and getting so tired of being addressed as 'Jackie Chan' everywhere I go - like I swear I am the only Chinese guy in this part of the world. Plenty of Asians in Puerto Rico, not seen one yet in the Dominican Republic.
  • Making friend with a super friendly donkey at Padre Nuestro and spending the next 20 minutes trying to stop it from following me home. All I wanted was a donkey selfie, not a new pet.
  • Being confronted by three very angry, barking dogs five minutes later and having to stand my ground knowing that I cannot outrun them. I managed to walk away slowly eventually without being bitten or chased but damn that was scary. What should one do when encountering dogs like that?
  • Having made one friend when I arrived at Bayahibe (the neighbour of my AirBNB host), I literally ran away from him when I met him in town a few hours later as I thought he was just another local trying to tell me stuff. The thing is we spoke in Spanish when we met earlier, but he shouted at me from across the street, "come here my friend" in English. I thought, no no whatever you're selling I am not buying and almost ran away. He caught up with me and then I realized, oh shit, I feel so bad. It is Miguel whom I befriended earlier in the day.
I could go on. It has been crazy hot, I have not been sleeping well and perhaps it is jetlag - either way, I shall leave you with a photo that a lot of people have liked on Facebook. I have done loads of handstand photos on holiday, but how about a one-arm handstand for a change? This was taken yesterday in Bavaro beach, Dominican Republic. Adios y hasta lluego.

    1. Yes I will definitely share that story when we get back to London! Now we are packing up, ready to shift camps - leaving here in 3 hours to go to the airport, to get the flight to Miami.
