I officially hate summer - it's too bloody hot

I just thought I'd show you a photo taken from my gym this Friday at the peak of our heatwave - this is the thermometer in my gym (no doubt you would recognize it from my gymnastics videos) and it hit 36.7 degrees in my gym on Friday. Yeah you can say it's a dry heat (only 24% relative humidity) but that's crazy hot for England. We do get a a week or two of hideously hot summer weather a year and it's torture as there's no air conditioning in England.
Allow me to get this off my chest: this is something my mother just does not understand. She is paranoid about cold weather - like anything below 28 degrees for her is cold. I tried to explain to her, "when the weather is cold, we put on winter clothing. The colder it is, the more we wear so we don't feel cold and we're well protected against the cold. No one is going to wander around in the snow wearing very little. However, when it is this hot, there is no escape from the heat, you need air-conditioning." But no, she doesn't get it. She thinks that people feel cold if the temperature is cold, rather than if they dress inappropriately or inadequately for the weather - duh! You can overdress in winter and sweat buckets if you're wearing way too much, you can indeed feel very, very hot when it's snowing outside if you're not wearing the right kind of winter clothes. Groan. It's like I can explain it to her 100 times and she can't get it into her head - now you know why I cannot live in the same time zone as my mother as simple things like that lead to arguments when she insists on holding on to opinions that are clearly factually wrong and she refuses to listen to reason.

Anyway, I digress. Any suggestions to stay cool in this terrible heat will be much appreciated. I'm off to Northern Greece and Southern Albania next week where ironically, it will be cooler than England. How about that?

  1. I happen to hate summer too! I have seasonal allergies from late spring to July. I have to take medication. I hate the heat. I hate the sun in my eyes when I drive. I get irritable. I have to admit that I love drying items in the sun. I have been spring cleaning the last two weeks getting ready for a yard sale. Hence, I have had to wash/wipe many items. I love that the hot sun dried up my items quickly and effectively before I stored them away. Other than that, I HATE SUMMER! Not to mention having to shop for summer clothes --- major stress especially if I need new swim suit to take my son to the beach. Yikes! I love fall.

    1. When you said you loved drying items in the sun, I thought you meant sun-dried tomatoes or maybe making bouquets of dried flowers!

    2. Haha! No la. I meant washing objects and having it dry in the sun. I have been spring cleaning for weeks. As I clean room by room, I also wash some of the dusty/dirty objects. E.g., toys and knick knacks. Sun-dried tomatoes and bouquets of dried flowers? Perhaps when I am retired and living in Tuscany!
