Alvivi's latest short film: Regret

Hi all, I am sure some of you have seen Alvivi's latest short film on Youtube - I thought I'd just talk about it after having seen it. I was a bit alarmed at first, but then again, I don't know where he is going with this. It feels a bit too honest and it was really sad to see Vivian in this state. And no, don't worry, she's not about to end it all (as the film suggests), the film was merely trying to capture her state of mind as a result of everything that has happened this year.

Here's the thing though, whilst Alvin directed the film, it seems to be Vivian's voice only captured in the film and I'm disappointed as I know Alvin - he is articulate, eloquent and very intelligent.  In this film Vivian kinda said everything one would expect her to say in this position. Having been speaking with Alvin throughout the latest episode (which caused us to miss each other when I was in KL recently), he has told me so much in private (which I cannot repeat here) which made me think that he would have been the far more interesting subject for a film like that.
Alvin isn't broken and in such despair as the way Vivian has allowed herself to be portrayed in this short film, he has remained calm, defiant and rational in the midst of a very stressful situation. Of course, he has to be careful not to do anything to jeopardize his case at the moment, or give those who are persecuting him any more ammunition to use against him. Don't forget he is currently under bail and cannot break the conditions of his bail. This film will not harm his case, but then again, it's hardly the kind of statement that I would have expected from the Alvin I know (especially given the way he was so defiant when the whole sex blog thing broke last year). So I'm afraid he is not in a position to make any kind of defiant public statement for now... Though it may have been more interesting to see him try to do a short film that isn't related to the whole Alvivi saga at all as he is definitely a gifted film maker.

I'm sorry - as much as I want to see Alvin and Vivian bounce back as film makers (who would've thought), I think this piece is a bit disappointing. The word that comes to mind is cliche. But trying to do anything autobiographical whilst making sure you don't break the conditions of your bail is always going to be really difficult - but hey, I don't want to be too negative or discourage them. It is a good start - it is a steep learning curve for Alvin as a director, I want to see him go further and do something else different that isn't autobiographical so he can truly allow his creative energies to flow.

So guys, have a watch of this film. Do you like it? Leave a comment below and let me know what you think, thanks.
