-4 and my hip - OUCH!

Yes against all my friends' advice, I went to do gymnastics again last night because I didn't want to miss the last session of the year. I was vaulting with a rather dodgy fractured ankle and crashed on a piked Tsukhara (geez, that's a skill I've been doing since I was a like 15) and felt this sharp pain in my left hip joint. It's where the thigh bone joins the hip. I had under-rotated the somersault and came down on all fours but my left leg was turned out at a strange angle, that's why I think I've "twisted" my hip, the way I twisted my ankle. The question is... can one twist one's hip joint? It hurts when I walk now. Ouch. At least my hip is helping me forget how badly my ankle is still hurting.

Anyway, it's -4 this morning and foggy. No more diving and gymnastics for the rest of December now, the rest will give me a chance to recover. Here's a screen shot of the weather forecast from this morning (yes I know it shows that it is -4 and the forecast was only for a low of -2, you'd think they'd adjust it to show that they didn't get their prediction wrong) and a picture of the ice on the bicycle last night, as well as a video of me performing the piked Tsukhara in training.
That is a layer of ice on the bicycle seat - I scraped that off before getting on the bike!

  1. I would suggest that you pop down to the Emergency Dept again. When your "leg was turned out at a strange angle", it is a sign of something fractured or dislocated. Yes, you can "twisted" your hip, the way you twisted your ankle -- but you would need an X-ray or something to ascertain the degree of damage.

That said, IMHO, at the rate that you're not "listening" to your body, you're going to be aging sooner than most other people. The "twisted" hip problem that spikes in Emergency Dept in B.C. (Canada) when fresh snow falls and the elderly (e.g. retirees twice your age) slipped on the icy pavements.

    1. Hi WD. Thanks so much for your message. I am actually much better today, I took it easy (went to the movies and watched Skyfall - it's great). So I don't think I need an X-ray - I've broken bones before and know how much a broken bone should hurt and this is more like a sprain. I am going to take it easy now in terms of sports...

  2. Take care! I am here in London too -and my cheeks froze after a short walk - but it is not going to stop me from visiting the winter wonderland this weekend :)

    1. We're expecting a lot of rain on Friday and possibly more this weekend, it's going to be muddy there. I have already been - I wasn't that impressed. It's the same one year after year. Overpriced food but there were one or two interesting shops selling quirky gifts for xmas. Wear sensible shoes (it will get muddy) and bring an umbrella. Have fun!

  3. I strongly recommend and endorse, from personal experience, the use of those elasticated strap-on spikes that you can fit to your shoes in snowy or icy conditions.
