This is why I can never be a parent, I will forget my own baby's birthday. Well, my blog is my baby and I just realized, my blog turned 1 on the 29th August 2012. My first post was on the 29th August 2011, it was a short rant about the presidential election then. I got 22 hits on my blog in the first month - LOL! Currently, I have had over 1.5 million hits on my blog so far, with 272,911 hits in the month of July 2012 alone. I've come a long way from 22 hits in a month eh? Honestly, when I first started writing this blog, I had no idea that anyone would read it (apart from my closest friends) and to have this many people read my writing is just incredible! Thank you for your support my LIFTers.
Oh and I checked - 29th Aug 2012, 2 posts that day, both on Diner en Blanc. I was so busy blogging about it I forgot my blog's birthday, alamak! So whilst I am 3 weeks late, I would like to wish my blog a happy first (+3 weeks) birthday!

Happy birthday. I have enjoyed reading your posts.
ReplyDeleteThanks ... you realize it's my blog's birthday rather than mine (my birthday is in April: http://limpehft.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/limpehs-birthday-today-okay.html
DeleteHi! Happy belated Birthday! Thanks for a great blog. It's permanently on my home screen. Thanks for enriching my world.. I like it that your blog provides rational n different perspectives without descending into vulgarity or namecalling that seem to be the hallmark of so many others. Have a great life!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind words Wendy :)
DeleteCongratulations and Happy Birthday!

Thank you Anthea for your support and all your insightful comments :)
DeleteWhen I fist stumbled in here, imagine my happiness finding a glossy, smart blog written with flair, that I could revisit repeatedly to find more goodstuff. Ive shown/ linked your articles to others to discuss in the coffee shop, over email or wherever with all-consuming passion sometimes.
ReplyDeleteThis blog is an asset especially to Singaporeans because you understand us very well yet you can see our situation from the outside -you point out eg.how weve gone wrong, where are blindspots are, what to do about it. Being your baby, where will it go from here: what hopes, dreams & intentions for its future? Thanks 4 evrything youve written so far.
Oh wow, thanks so much for your very kind words! You've put such a smile on my face now!
DeleteYes, my stint working in Singapore last year showed me that you can take the boy out of S'pore but you can't take the S'pore out of the boy. Before my stint in S'pore last year I wouldn't have dreamt of writing this blog as I've been away since 1997 and I thought, no way I am out of touch and am in no position to write about things in Singapore - but after I returned for the 2nd half of 2011, I was like, actually, sometimes it feels like I've never left. Yes things are different somewhat from the 90s but hey, they're not thaaaaaaaat different. But I am now writing from the outside, but with a sense of confidence that I am able to judge S'pore and her people fairly when I do write.
Thanks so much for reading Lam Toh. Without people like you reading, I wouldn't be writing. 1.5 millions hits so far in the last 1 year 3 weeks. Just think - I started with 22 hits in my first month, this baby has come a long way and it wouldn't have been possible without the support of LIFTers like you, so from the bottom of my heart, I say, kum siah, kum siah :)
An excellent blog. You know ever since I started surfing the net in 1996, this is the only blog that I have followed. I only followed football forums and until this year, for the 1st time a local one - Sgforums and occasionally the Singapore daily (which I discovered from the elections of last year). The Emeritus Temasek Review and maybe Sammyboy and 3 in 1 Kopitiam for the occasional laugh and gossip on politics.
ReplyDeleteSo yours is the only personal blog, and why? Because your postings (despite a certain bias - but which writer doesn't have a certain slant?), is fair most of the time and mirrors many of my own views.
Plus it has a touch of genuine concern and willingness to help others.
So congrats and keep it up
Thanks so much for your kind words, I am touched. I write because of people like you reading. Thank you ;)
